  • A Pleasant Surprise

    Unusually well crafted for this genre. I’m seriously impressed. All too often you’re forced to put up with some rough edges in dialogue, plot, even basic logic for sake of a good idea. Not here. It’s obvious the hard work didn’t stop at the creative process. Some seriously good edit work made for a polished enjoyable read. This author has become a favorite.

    At $5 for this book, and $2 for its sequel, I wasn’t expecting much; just a little light escapist entertainment. And the concept seemed interesting, if somewhat unbelievable. A book succeeds or fails based on the quality of the writing, and unfortunately I found this writing so stilted that it got in the way of the story-telling. Hell Divers reads like a first writing attempt by someone who hasn’t bothered to read much. The phrasing is awkward, the sentence structures are reminiscent of children’s books, and the characterizations vary between stiff and eratic. By the end of the first chapter, I was done. Don’t waste your time or money.

    I absolutely enjoyed this book! I found it difficult to put down and was completely captivated by the world, the characters, and their plight. I have so many unanswered questions (where are the sirens from? How did they get there? I'm certain they have a story ! Will the Hive ever find a safe place to land?) and I can't wait to read the next book in the continuation of the series. Ps please write faster i need to know what happens next!! Thank you! For any wanting a fantastic story that caters to all of your senses and keeps you enthralled till the very end - I highly recommend this book and this author!

    Great read. If you enjoy post apocalyptic tales, this is a winner. I completed the reckoners series by brandon sanderson and struggled finding another post apocalyptic type tale that would keep me entertained. I loved every minute and look forward to the sequel.

    Picked up this book on a whim and so glad I did. Haven't read a book so fast in a long time! Interesting view on a story of apoplectic survivors and one full of action from cover to cover! Can't wait until books 2 & 3!

    Nicholas Sansbury Smith has done it again! This story delivers his distinctive rapid-fire action, powerful characterizations and ingenious new twists on familiar tropes. He has masterfully created not one, but TWO desperate worlds. First is the ravaged earth two hundred fifty years after nuclear holocaust. The other is roughly twenty thousand feet above the planet’s surface in massive dirigibles never designed with long-term human housing in mind. There’s a great deal going on here and it all plays out magnificently. My favorite character, Xavier “X” Rodriguez, is the perfect anti-hero. Self-absorbed. Tormented. Flawed. His skydiving scenes are breathtakingly realistic. Even my husband, who has thousands of jumps under his belt (albeit never into a post-apocalyptic nuclear stew) was very impressed. We both highly recommend this intrepid new series.

    I loved this post apocalyptic book by Nicholas Smith. This is a story about how the last few survivors of a post apocalyptic event survive and what has happened to the world below. The characters were great with Xavier being one of the Hell Divers that descend to the surface of the world. It kept me on the edge the entire time and I can't wait for the next book. Highly recommended to post apocalyptic and monster lovers!

    Great book! Didn't want to stop reading. When I had to take breaks I was haunted by what would happen next. Great story with believable characters. Going to read other books by this author now. Hope to see this I the movies or on TV as it would be great! Very impressed!
